Breaking: Brazil records 54,771 coronavirus cases in one day, total cases now over 1 million

Reports reaching our news desk from Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian capital says the nation has become the second country in the world after the US to confirm more than one million cases of Coronavirus.

According to the health ministry yesterday Friday, June 19th 2020, a whopping total of 54,771 persons tested positive for coronavirus in the country.

This is the highest daily increase any country across the nations of the earth has ever recorded since the pandemic began, this figure has therefore taking the total case in Brazil to 1,032,913.

According to him, about half of this increased figure was due to delayed reporting in three states, including São Paulo and others.

He further stated that Brazil recorded well over 1,200 deaths for the fourth consecutive day, taking the total to almost 49,000 in less than a week.

President Jair Bolsonaro has been heavily criticized for his response to the crisis.

The far-right leader has repeatedly clashed with state governors and mayors over their strict restrictions to curb the spread of the virus. His approach has also led to the resignation of two health ministers.
